House rules

Ten of them, and the reason for each. Read them once and you will not need them again.

  1. This is readers talking, not golo publishing.

Nothing on Gist has been checked by an editor. It is what somebody typed. Read it the way you would read what somebody says in a bus, not the way you would read the news.

  2. Be funny, be blunt, change your mind out loud.

Being wrong in public is fine and being corrected in public is fine. What is not fine is stating a thing you know is false about a real person or a real business. That one has a name and the name is defamation.

  3. Do not post anybody's private business.

Somebody’s number, address, workplace, medical matter, family matter or pictures they did not put up themselves. Not for a joke, not to prove a point, not because they started it. This one ends in a ban with no conversation.

  4. Do not come for anybody's village, body, tribe or faith.

Argue with what a person said. The moment it becomes what they are, where they are from or what they worship, it stops being a conversation and Nigeria has enough of that already.

  5. No money offers. None.

No investment, no forex, no signals, no crypto doubling, no loan offers, no gift card rates, no "make ₦50,000 weekly", no recruiting. Whether it is real or not, it does not happen here — because the real ones are how readers learn to trust the fake ones.

  6. Do not move anybody off Gist.

No "DM me", no WhatsApp group, no Telegram, no phone numbers, no email addresses. Every scam that has ever worked on a forum worked by getting somebody somewhere private first. Say it here where everybody can see it, or do not say it.

  7. Do not be somebody you are not.

Not golo, not the team, not a moderator, not a bank, not a real person who exists. A handle that is built to be mistaken for one of those goes without warning.

  8. Do not sell here.

Not products, not services, not your channel, not your app. Links from a new handle wait for an editor for exactly this reason. If you have something to sell golo, the advertising page is downstairs.

  9. Nothing illegal, and nothing involving a child.

Stolen data, hacked accounts, drugs, weapons, papers that are not yours. Anything sexual involving a minor is reported to the authorities and the account is gone. There is no second part to this rule.

  10. One handle each.

A pile of handles run by one person is how a small opinion is made to look like a big one. Standing here is earned by showing up, and it cannot be earned five times at once.

What happens

  • Anything reported three times goes back to the team automatically, whoever wrote it.
  • A post that reads like a money offer, carries contact details, or carries a link from a handle that is new here waits for an editor before anybody sees it. It is not deleted, and you are told it is waiting.
  • An editor can hide a post, delete it, lock a topic, or stop a handle posting at all.
  • Doxxing, impersonation and anything involving a child end the account on the first offence. Everything else usually gets one conversation first.

If you see something

Every post has a report link under it. Use it rather than answering — arguing with a scam post keeps it at the top of the page, which is exactly what it was posted for. Three reports take it off the page and put it in front of an editor.

If somebody has actually taken money from you, report the post and then tell the police. We can close an account; only they can do the rest.

Back to Gist

Gist

Gist is readers talking, not golo publishing. Be funny, be blunt, change your mind out loud. Nobody's private business, nobody's village, body, tribe or faith, and nobody's money.

golo will never ask you for money, for your bank details, for your BVN, or for a password — not in a post, not by email, not by anybody claiming to be the team. There is nothing to pay for here. If somebody says otherwise, they are not us. Report the post.
