Who we are
golo.africa is published by Ceqo Media. Using the site means you accept what is on this page. How we handle your details is a separate matter, covered in Privacy.
Using Golo
Read it, share it, quote it, argue with it. What you may not do:
- Republish whole stories elsewhere as if they were yours.
- Scrape the site in bulk, or use it to train a model, without asking us first.
- Attack, overload or break into any part of it.
- Pretend to be someone else, here or in the comments.
Quoting a paragraph or two with a link back is welcome and always has been.
Our work
The stories, photographs, artwork and the golo name and marks belong to us or to the people we licensed them from. Where a photograph came from somewhere else, the credit and licence sit under the picture. Want to use something properly? Ask at hello@golo.africa.
Your comments
Comment under any name you like. Your first one waits for an editor before it appears, and after that yours go up straight away. Comments with links always wait. If enough readers report a comment that is already live, it goes back into the queue for a person to look at.
We take down comments that are:
- Abusive, or an attack on somebody rather than an argument.
- Racist, tribalist, homophobic, or aimed at a group of people.
- Somebody's private details: phone number, address, workplace.
- Spam, scams, or an advert dressed up as a comment.
- A claim about a real person that you cannot stand up.
What you write stays yours, and by posting it you let us publish it here. To have yours removed, write to hello@golo.africa and say which one. We do not have to explain a moderation decision, but we will if you ask reasonably.
Sending us your story
Some of the best things here come from readers. When you send us one:
- It stays yours. You are giving us permission to publish and keep it on the site, not handing over ownership.
- If you ask to be anonymous, we mean it. Your name goes nowhere near the published piece and we do not confirm it to anyone.
- We may edit for length and clarity, and we may check things. We will not change what happened to you.
- Send your own story, not someone else's, and take other people's identifying details out of it.
- Change your mind later and we will take it down. That is your call, not ours.
Putting someone forward
Anyone can nominate a person, a startup or a brand for Spotlight. Only nominate someone who would be happy to hear from us, and do not send private contact details that are not yours to share. We do our own reporting before anything is published, and we may not publish at all.
Ads and sponsored stories
Advertising pays for the work. Paid placements are marked, and a story a brand paid for carries a Sponsored mark and names them. Advertisers have no say in anything else we publish. What is on an advertiser's own site is their business, not ours.
When we get it wrong
Tell us at hello@golo.africa. If we published something wrong we fix it and say we fixed it, in the story itself. We would rather be corrected quickly than be quietly wrong.
Links to other sites
We link out constantly. Once you leave Golo you are on somebody else's site, under their rules, and we are not responsible for what is there.
What we cannot promise
We work hard to get things right, but Golo is provided as it is. We cannot promise the site is always up, or that every fact will stay accurate as the world moves. Nothing here is legal, medical or financial advice — a story about what a loan cost somebody is not a recommendation to take one. Where the law says we are responsible for something, we are; beyond that, we are not liable for losses that follow from using the site.
Changes
We update this page when the way the site works changes, and move the date at the top. Carrying on using Golo after that means the new version applies.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts deal with any dispute. As each new country hub opens, local law applies to readers there as well.
