The green passport now starts at ₦100,000 if you are applying in Nigeria.
That is before bank charges.
The Nigeria Immigration Service raised the standard passport fees in September 2025, and its 2026 service-level agreement still lists the same amounts.
So if your passport plan has been sitting inside “I’ll do it later,” this is what later currently costs.
Step 1: Choose how many pages and how many years
For applications made in Nigeria, NIS lists:
32 pages, five years: ₦100,000
64 pages, ten years: ₦200,000
The service says those prices are exclusive of bank charges.
For Nigerians applying abroad, the fee table is different: $150 for the 32-page, five-year booklet and $230 for the 64-page, ten-year booklet.
The local and diaspora prices are not interchangeable.
Step 2: Your NIN comes first
The current NIS application guide starts with your National Identification Number.
Fresh applicants use the passport portal, choose “Apply for Fresh Passport,” verify their NIN, pick a processing centre and choose the booklet size.
The personal information you see during the application is tied to your NIMC record.
That is a useful place to stop if the name, date of birth or other details are wrong. Paying first and discovering a mismatch later is a worse afternoon.
Step 3: Upload the documents and book your appointment
NIS says applicants upload an ICAO-compliant photograph, provide contact and next-of-kin information, upload the supporting documents required for the application, then pay and book a biometric appointment.
Fresh applications listed in the 2026 SLA require a birth certificate or High Court declaration of age and a local-government or indigene certificate, alongside the NIN details and passport photograph.
The exact supporting documents can depend on the application type.
Step 4: You still have to show up
The process is online, but the person is not optional.
NIS says applicants must appear at the chosen immigration office for biometric capture.
For a fresh application, the 2026 service-level agreement lists a timeline of 42 days after successful enrolment.
That wording matters.
It is not 42 days from the day you first open the website. It is measured after successful enrolment.
The correction fee is another number to know
The same 2026 NIS document lists an administrative charge of ₦30,000 for correction of data.
That does not mean every passport correction will cost only ₦30,000; different applications can carry other requirements. It is the administrative charge NIS currently publishes for data correction.
So check the information pulled from NIN before you keep clicking.
The passport itself is already ₦100,000 at the cheapest local option.
There is no prize for adding avoidable wahala to the bill.
