What ₦5,000 of Data Actually Buys You Right Now

₦5,000 buys 20GB for a week on some plans, but barely 11GB for a month on another. Same budget, different data and different clock.

Five thousand naira sounds like a simple budget until you try to buy data with it.

On one network, it can give you 20GB and seven days to finish it. On another, you get less data but a full month. Same ₦5,000. Completely different clock.

The NCC’s approved bundle list makes the difference easier to see.

Airtel gives you two obvious ways to spend it

Airtel currently lists a 20GB weekly plan for ₦5,000. It lasts seven days.

Its monthly plan at the same price gives 13GB for 30 days, plus 2GB of YouTube night data and 200MB for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

So the question is not only how much data you want. It is how fast you plan to use it.

Twenty gigabytes in seven days makes sense for somebody with a heavy week ahead. Thirteen gigabytes over a month is a different kind of purchase.

Airtel’s own data-plan page shows both.

MTN puts ₦5,000 in the weekly lane

MTN’s current public page lists 20GB for ₦5,000, valid for seven days and available through digital channels.

The monthly table does not have an exact ₦5,000 option. The closest plans around it are 10GB for ₦4,500 and 12.5GB for ₦5,500, both valid for 30 days.

That matters if you are the kind of person who buys “₦5k data” without looking at validity.

The 20GB number looks bigger because it is bigger. It also expires much sooner.

You can see the current options on MTN’s data-plan page.

Glo has more than one ₦5,000 route

The NCC table lists a Glo monthly plan at 14,848MB, roughly 14.5GB, for ₦5,000, with an extra 2GB of night data.

It also lists an Always-On bundle at the same ₦5,000 price with 30,720MB over 30 days.

Those are different products with different business rules, which is exactly why reading only the price is a bad shortcut.

T2 gives 11.4GB for the month

For T2, the NCC-approved individual bundle table lists 11.4GB for ₦5,000, valid for 30 days.

No night bucket. No seven-day sprint in that listing. Just a smaller monthly allowance.

The number on the poster is not the whole plan

This is the part that gets lost when people compare bundles in the group chat.

A gigabyte with seven days left is not the same thing as a gigabyte with 30 days left. Bonus data that only works at night is not the same thing as anytime data. A bundle tied to digital channels is another condition to notice.

And operators change plans.

The safest number is the one sitting on the operator’s page or the NCC-approved list on the day you are paying.

The network is not selling you gigabytes alone.

It is selling you gigabytes with a clock attached.
