The menu with no prices is always a trap

  1. You can usually tell before the food arrives. The menu has no prices. The waiter recites instead of writing.

What is the worst bill you have ever been handed?
  2. A place in Lekki charged me 18k for two pieces of chicken and called it a tasting portion. I am still angry about it two years later.
  3. Two years later and you still remember the exact figure. That is how you know it was robbery.
  4. You never forget the number. Ever.
  5. My rule now is simple. If the waiter recites the menu from memory I ask for the written one. If there is no written one I leave.
  6. Adding this to my own list, thank you.
  7. Nobody talks about the service charge that appears at the end like a surprise guest.
  8. And the one they call consumption tax. Consumption of what exactly.
